What happens during newborn care visits?

These first few visits at Dr. Soos Pediatrics allow you to begin building a bond with your child’s doctor and support staff. The primary focus of newborn care is checking your child’s development. During each visit, your practitioner gathers information on your baby’s length, weight, heart rate, breathing function and more. 

That information is used to chart your baby’s development and compare it to national statistics. You see where your child falls on the scale, and, over time, you can watch as your child moves through the stages of development. 

Immunizations are also part of newborn visits. There are vaccines your child needs early in life. Your practitioner understands that shots are not fun for you or your child, and takes steps to make this portion of your visit go as smoothly as possible.

When should I schedule the first newborn visit?

The best timing for your initial newborn visit is even before your baby arrives. That gives you a chance to meet the Dr. Soos Pediatrics team and discuss their approach to newborn care. 

Dr. Soos can meet with your obstetrician before your due date to coordinate care. Once your newest family member arrives, he can begin caring for your baby while still in the hospital. 

The Dr. Soos Pediatrics team believes that parenthood begins as soon as you learn you’re expecting. As you make decisions for your child’s health and wellness, the team works in partnership with you. What other services are available for infant care?

If your child has special health needs, Dr. Soos and his team may be able to provide the services needed to support those needs. In the event that specialized care is the right course of action, Dr. Soos can help you find a specialist and then coordinate with your extended medical team as needed. 

Many mothers also benefit from lactation support, another service available through Dr. Soos Pediatrics. The team lactation consultants can work with you in the hospital and during your office visits to ensure breastfeeding success.
